There are a variety of things we recommend to help make your cycling more comfortable and enjoyable. Depending on the time of the year, your experience level and the type of riding you do, there are accessories and clothing that can help you get the most out of riding.

Helmet

Every helmet we stock, regardless of the retail, has to pass the same safety tests.Ventilation is key – so the more vents the better.
  • Be careful not to neglect your dome if it’s chrome. Little to no hair exposes your scalp to sunlight through the vents of the helmet and can leave nasty sunburn.

  • Headsweats makes a head cover that withstands a variety of temperatures while wicking away moisture. Also available in a headband style for those not needing scalp protection, but would like to keep sweat from running down your face.

Water Bottle

  • An insolated bottle to keep your beverage cooler longer.

  • A Camelbak, which holds a larger volume of water while allowing for storage.

Note: Most frames have a universal bolt pattern for mounting a water bottle holder to the frame.

Seat Bag

  • Seat bags come in many, many configurations to fill whatever need you have.

  • A handlebar bag for even more storage.
        - Some may have map holders so you can view while riding

  • A rack with a trunk pack or panniers for even greater storage capacity.

Note: For foul weather riding, think about rain covers for your bags

Flat repair

You will need:

  • Tire levers used to remove the tire from the wheel

  • Tube and/or patch kit (Probably best to carry both in case one fails)
  • Mini pump or CO2

CO2 has become the more popular way to inflate a tire. Compact and inexpensive, they can take any tire up to the required tire pressure. However, they seem to intimidate users, yet they are extremely easy to use. Ask any of our staff for a demonstration so you can benefit from this compact option.

Note: CO2 or mini pumps are meant for use during the ride. A floor pump will make your life much easier when topping your tire pressure at home. Tires tend to lose air day-to-day so you should always top your tire pressure off before each ride to insure your tires are performing at their best.

Slime Sealant

This is a liquid inserted inside the inner tube. Its purpose is to find air escaping from the inner tube and seal the openings. Thorns, glass, nails and tacks are no longer an issue when running Slime in your tubes.
Note: Also used in tubeless tire systems.

Cyclometers

The #1 way to reintroduce yourself to your ride – the cyclometer. It allows you to track your speed, distance, time, and more. Advanced versions include a GPS system that can even be uploaded so friends can download your information and ride against you. It’s a great way to push yourself to the next level. For training, cadence is a key factor and select units include this feature.

Gloves

Today’s gloves serve more purpose proven through medical studies. Gloves can enhance your riding experience by reducing impact on key nerves throughout your palm, eliminating undesirable sensations.

Shorts with chamois

Whether it is a baggy short with a chamois liner or a Lycra short with a chamois built in, you will appreciate the benefits. The extra padding chamois provides reduces vibration, while removing moisture from your skin to the outer surface to dry quicker. Moisture management is key to controlling your body’s temperature.
